The video Ommegang consists of footage Van der Put gathered while filming the life stream of a public webcam that is positioned on the Grand Place in Brussels. This webcam can be operated ‘democratically’ by the online visitors of the website; they can turn the camera in different positions and are able to zoom in.
The grainy, pixelated quality of the black and white images and the stuttering internet connection show resemblances with footage from early silent cinema, emphasizing a confusion of historical timelines within this recorded re-enactment.
